One Musicfest Re-cap

ONE Musicfest you’ve done it again!!! So many beautiful people, amazing artists, and so much love and positive energy. Wonderful vendors, good food and great music. Some of my highlights included…..

Yasiin Bey fka Mos Def’s ‘farewell’ set was on point from the start. He sprinkled rose petals onto the stage as he walked on. Many times during his performance you could feel the love emanating from smile. “I will continue to create… in various forms. Farewell isn’t goodbye”, Yasiin told the crowd.

Jill Scott’s performance was fantastic. Each Jill Scott performance is a one of a kind experience. She invited the crowd to participate in a call and response moment….the entire venue repeated the mantra…’I’ll love myself more each day’.  She also showcased her operatic skills and even sang in Spanish. Her set also included a tribute to those who have lost their lives due to police violence. Photos of victims were projected on the screen behind her as she sang. She closed out her set by singing a song that she wrote at age 16 about injustice. Unfortunately the lyrics are as relevant today as they were then. ‘Jilly from Philly’ represented her hometown well!! Wonderful choice OMF… to have Miss Scott close out the festival!

Damian ‘Jr. Gong” Marley’s set was was very energetic and uplifting. Marley, the youngest son of reggae legend, Bob Marley…performed several of his hits. Marley performed with a full band including the best background singers I’ve seen in a long time. Shout out to the brother waving the Lion of Judah flag during the entire set.

Other performers included: Ro James, Jidenna, Migos, Too Short, Pastor Troy, Tank and the Bangas, Kaytranada (dj set), Ari Lennox and more!!

ONE Musicfest….. great show once again! #OMF2017
